Library Service

King Island library service is located in Currie. Don’t be discouraged by the small building – it contains a wealth of information!  Once you have joined the Tasmanian Library Service, you are able to order books in person, via the internet at the library, or in the convenience of your own home. The library is open Mondays 2pm - 5pm, Wednesdays 1pm - 6pm and Fridays 10am - 2pm.

Items are shipped to the Island, and you will receive an emailed acknowledgment when your order has arrived. There is no freight charge for items.For further information, please telephone 03 6462 1202 or use the web  www.linc.tas.gov.au

Mail Service
Australia Post is located in Currie with full services available.
Incoming mail delivery times are 2-3 business days for letters, 3-5 business days for parcels and 2-3 days for Express mail. This of course can vary during peak mail periods, and delays can sometimes occur if planes carrying the mail are unable to fly due to inclement weather.

A Community Mail Agency (CMA) services Grassy residents. Mail is collected daily from Currie, and available for collection from the Grassy Supermarket.
Roadside delivery is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to rural residents.

Banking
Currie is the main banking centre of King Island, with a Westpac branch and Automated Teller Machine (ATM)  located in the main street. Other banking agencies available on the Island include the Commonwealth Bank agency located in the Post Office and an Elders agency located in the Elders building. The Foodworks Supermarket also has an ATM facility.

Mobile Phone Service
King Island is currently serviced by the Next G telephone service. 3G handsets will not work on the Island. A mobile rental service is available from Cameesha Beauty Salon 03 6462 1526. 

Newspapers
The King Island Courier is published once per week on a Wednesday. Advertising closes the previous Friday. Please telephone 03 6462 1422 for further information.
Our mainland newspapers are flown in to King Island on a daily basis. Inclement weather can sometimes delay scheduled flights which may cause newspapers to arrive late for retail sales and to consequently miss the rural delivery mail runs. Please be patient.

Sunday papers are not available until Mondays, due to flight schedules.

Shopping Hours
Most businesses on the Island adhere to normal shopping hours of 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.  The two supermarkets located in Currie are open 8.00am – 6.00pm seven days per week except Good Friday (Easter) and Christmas Day. 

Fuel Availability
Fuel is only available in Currie and Grassy.  

Fuel in Currie can be purchased from two outlets from 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday fuel is available 9.00am to 12.30pm at one outlet, then 12.30pm to 5.00pm from the other. 

After hours fuel can be purchased, but it will require you to apply for a Fuel Card Account with King Island Motors.
Fuel in Grassy is available 9.00am to 5.30pm seven days a week.
